Greetings from the President
Japan Shogi Association
President
HABU Yoshiharu
I would like to extend my warmest welcome on the organization of the International Shogi Forum 2024. The first edition was held in 1999 with the aim of promoting and spreading shogi internationally. as well as promoting cultural exchange and international friendship through shogi. Since then, it has been held every three years, and this will be the ninth edition.
This year (2024) will be the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Japan Shogi Association. As one of its major commemorative projects, the "New Shogi Hall" will be built in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo. As the headquarters for making new history, the "New Shogi Hall" will be a base for disserminationg Japanese culture, and will host the "International Shogi Tournament" and other main programs.
In addition, we have prepared a variety of programs, including instructional games for foreign players by shogi players, special games by top shogi players, and a commemorative game between the winner of the International Shogi Tournament and FUJII Sota Ryuo - Meijin, which will be broadcasted on YouTube. We hope that this event will bring the appeal of Shogi to people all over the world.
Finally, I would like to thank the Agency for Cultural Affairs for its cooperation in organizing this event, as well as all those involved for their sponsorship and support. I would also like to extend my best wishes to all the participants for their continued success.
