The 9th International Shogi Tournament OUTLINE

1. Basic Schedule

  • May to July each country or region Preliminary Rounds
  • November 8th and 9th (Friday and Saturday) Finals, time TBD

Shibuya "New Shogi Hall" "Current Shogi Hall"

3. Tournament Format

・Date: November 8 (Fri.)-9 (Sat.), Opening Ceremony November 8 9:30
・Place: Shogi Kaikan (the new Shogi Kaikan), Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
・The draw will be made at the eve of the tournament on November 7 to determine the groups of 4 or 3 players.
・The format is 20 min + 30 sec byoyomi.
・In the first round, players No. 1 and No. 2, as well as No. 3 and No. 4 in the same league will play each other, and in the second round, the winners of the first round and the losers in the same league will play each other.
・Players who are 1 win and 1 lose after the first and second round will play another game with another player from other group league.
・The players with 2 wins will advance to the A Tournament, and the players with 2 loses will advance to the B Tournament.
・The best four players from each tournament will advance to the second day of the tournament (November 9).
・Prizes will be awarded to all players who finish 1st through 3rd in both the A and B tournaments.

 10:00-11:15 First qualifying round
 11:15-12:30 Second qualifying round    
 12:30-13:30 Lunch break
 13:30-14:45 3rd qualifying round
 14:45-15:15 Drawing of lots for A and B tournaments
 15:15-16:30 Final Tournament 1st round
 16:30-17:45 Final Tournament 2nd Round
 17:45-19:00 Final Tournament 3rd Round

 November 9 (Saturday)
 8:30 Departure from hotel
 9:15 Players assemble
 9:30-10:45 Semifinals (2 games each in A and B tournaments)
 11:00-12:15 Final games (A and B tournaments)
 14:00-15:30 Commemorative game between Sota Fujii, Ryuo Meijin and the A Tournament winner
 16:00- Awards Ceremony
